Rows 1-26: Work in k2, p2 rib.
Row 27 (Dec Row): *K2, p2, k2, p2tog; rep from * across row – 49 sts.
Row 28: *K1, p2, k2, p2; rep from * across row.
Row 29 (Dec Row): *k2, p2tog, k2, p1; rep from * – 42 sts.
Row 30: *K1, p2; rep from * across row.
Row 31: *K1, k2tog; rep from * across row. – 28 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving an 8 in. [20.5 cm] tail. Thread tail through remaining sts, draw together tightly and fasten off.

EARFLAP (make 2)
Cast on 10 sts.
Rows 1-4: Knit.
Row 5 (Dec Row): K2tog, k 6, k2tog - 8 sts.
Rows 6 and 7: Knit.
Rep last 3 rows twice.

FINISHING
Ties (make 2)
Cut 3 lengths of yarn, each about 12 in. [30.5 cm]. Knot lengths tog at one end and sew to Earflap. Braid lengths for about 10 in. [25.5. cm], then knot. Trim ends evenly.
Pompom
Follow package instructions to make a pom pom.
Sew back seam of Hat. Fold up 3 1/2 in. [9 cm] for brim. Sew Earflaps to sides of Hat at fold line. Sew pom pom to top of Hat. Weave in ends.

Cast on 42 (48, 54) sts.

Row 1 (RS): Knit.

Rows 2-7: Knit.

Row 8: K4, p to last 4 sts, k4.

Row 9 (increase): K4, inc in next st, k across row to last 5 sts, inc in next
st, k4 – 44 (50, 56) sts.

Rows 10-12: K4, work in St st across to last 4 sts, k4.

Repeat last 4 rows until there are 54 (60, 72) sts. Continue to work in St st,
keeping first and last 4 sts in garter st (k every row) until Back measures
11 (12, 13) in. [28 (30.5, 33) cm] from beg. Bind off.


FRONT

Work same as Back until piece measures 8 (9, 10) in. [20.5 (23, 25.5) cm] from
beg, end with a WS row.


Shape Neck

Row 1 (RS): Knit.

Row 2: K4, p14 (17, 23), k18, p14 (17, 23), k4.

Repeat last 2 rows once more.

Next Row: Knit.

Next Row: K4, p14 (17, 23), bind off center 18 sts for neck, join second ball
of yarn and p14 (17, 23), k4.

Working both sides at same time, continue to work even on both sides of Front
until same length as Back. Bind off.


POCKET

Cast on 16 sts.

Rows 1-6: Knit.

Row 7 (RS - increase): K4, inc in next st, k across row to last 5 sts, inc in
next st, k4 – 18 sts.

Rows 8-10: K4, work in St st across to last 4 sts, k4.

Repeat last 4 rows until there are 24 sts. Continue to work in St st, keeping
first and last 4 sts in garter st until pocket measures 3¼ in. [8.5 cm],
end with WS row. Knit 5 rows. Bind off.


FINISHING

Sew shoulders. Position pocket on center of Front with longest straight edge
on top; sew pocket to Front along sides and lower edge.


Hood

With RS facing, join yarn at right front neck edge and pick up and k 14 sts
from right side of front neck, 20 sts across back neck, 14 sts from left front
neck edge – 48 sts.

Next Row: K4, p to last 4 sts, k4.

Next Row (increase): K across, inc 4 (8, 12) sts evenly spaced – 52 (56,
60) sts. Work even as established keeping first and last 4 sts in garter st
until hood measures 7½ (8, 8½) in. [19 (20.5, 21.5) cm] from beg.
Bind off. Fold hood in half and sew together along top edge.


Weave in ends. If
desired, sew snaps on each side for armholes.

Finishing

Sew raglan and side seams.

Neck Band: With size 11 circular needles, knit the 18 (20,
22, 22) sts on front holder, the 6 (6, 4, 4) sts on sleeve holder, the 18 (20,
22, 22) sts on back holder, and the 6 (6, 4, 4) sts on sleeve holder. Dec 1
st at each of the four raglan seams (knit the last st of one to the first st
of the other piece you have sewn), for 44 (48, 48, 48) sts around neck edge.
Join and work in k1, p1 ribbing for 3 in. [7.5 cm], keeping the 5 sts in rev
St that you did up the front. Then change to size 15 needles. Keep in k1, p1
rib, changing the 5 rev St sts to St st so the purl side shows when folded over.
Continue until piece measures 8 in. [20.5 cm]. BO all sts loosely. With a single
strand of yarn, lace up the front reverse St st pattern on the collar and make
two pompoms.
